Every so often I get an intense craving for chocolate cake or a cupcake, something chocolaty, sweet… And I have no will power against chocolate, well, snack foods in general. There is a solution to this need. A mug cake.
Making a single serving solves this problem, making it in the microwave makes it quick.
Mix the flour, sugar, and cocoa.
Then add in egg, milk and, going a bit healthier, apple sauce, otherwise oil, and vanilla.
At the end, you can add in a couple tablespoons of chocolate chips, either mix them in or just layer on the top.
So we’re at what 2 minutes of time so far? Microwave on high for 3 minutes. Ta-da! You are your way to chocolate heaven in about 5 minutes.
Just remember, it is addicting how fast it is to make this delicious chocolaty cake. Its probably not something that you want to eat everyday.
- 4 tbsp flour
- 4 tbsp sugar
- 2 tbsp cocoa
- 1 egg
- 3 tbsp milk
- 3 tbsp vegetable oil OR 3 tbsp unsweetened apple sauce
- a splash of vanilla
- 3 tbsp chocolate chips (optional)
Mix dry ingredients. Add egg, milk, vanilla, and apple sauce or oil. Mix well. If desired stir in chocolate chips. I like to spread my over the top.
This would make a great Christmas gift as well. Place all the dry ingredients in a baggie, include a small card with the wet ingredients to be added and how long to microwave. Place in a nice microwave mug. A simple, inexpensive gift, perfect for a neighbor, co-worker, or as an add-on.
