Celebrate #90DaysOfSummer at Blue Mountain Resort

Not that you needed a reminder. The kids have been counting down, making lists and anxiously awaiting this well deserved break. The thing I find remarkable about children is their absolute want and need to make the most out of everything. Summer is no exception to this rule.

“Because there are ONLY 90 days, mom!”

Alas, living in Canada has its perks but a lengthy warm season is not one of them. So the big question on our mind this year is how we can possibly make the most of it and out-do last year?

If you’re from Ontario, then you probably know Blue Mountain as a winter destination. It’s true that they have some of the best skiing in the province, along with gorgeous views and accommodations. What you may not know is that when the snow melts and the grass begins to sprout, the resort transforms in to a gorgeous summer destination attracting travelers from solo, to couples to families, seeking a unique getaway experience.

We had the opportunity to start our summer off with a bang, spending two glorious nights at the beautiful Westin Trillium House, packing in as much fun and relaxation as we could. Our son was away at camp so we brought our daughter’s best friend with us – two peas in a pod those two and our first experience away with TWO girls.

Blue Mountain Trip 2015

When we arrived, the girls were anxious to try well, everything! My daughter recalled how much she enjoyed the Ridge Runner Mountain Coaster during our previous trip so it was an easy first stop. This coaster is fun for all members of the family because you are able to control the speed of your cart. While my husband and daughter preferred to attempt to set a land-speed record by pushing it as fast as they could (the max speed is a whopping 42 km/hr), I controlled the other cart at a more moderate but exciting pace.

After the excitement of the coaster, we decided to give the Woodlot Low Ropes course a go. This was our first experience on a ropes course and we really had an amazing time. Not only did it challenge each of us individually, we really bonded as a group going through it together. Even my daughter who typically gives up quickly when it comes to difficult tasks, pushed through and really impressed us. We all were able to complete all 25 aerial elements including suspended logs, beams, ropes, cables, and cargo nets and talked about how great it was for the rest of our trip.

After an exciting morning of activities in the sunshine, we headed to Plunge! Aquatic Centre to cool down and have some fun in the water. The facility, which is located beside the Westin, boasts a large indoor-outdoor pool, a water play structure (the girls loved this), a water slide, hot tubs and a separate pool with a tarzan rope. There were plenty of chairs and loungers all around for relaxing as well. It was a great way to spend the hot afternoon!

Once the girls were suitably water-logged, we headed to the hotel to change for dinner. What I love about Blue Mountain Resort is the sheer volume of options for accommodations. We might be biased but The Westin Trillium House definitely has the best views on the resort!

Our suite was large and well appointed with a full living room including gas fireplace and a pull-out couch, dining room with seating for 6 and a full sized kitchen, complete with fridge, stove, dishwasher and dishes. Two bedrooms and two bathrooms meant the girls had their own space separate from ours, which they just loved. It was the perfect place to wind down at the end of a busy day.

Not only did we have the chance to experience family-friendly activities, if you head over to my husband’s blog, you can read about the romantic day we were able to spend together, thanks to Plunge! Super Camp. While I won’t give it all away, I will say if you have kids, they will LOVE this camp and won’t want to leave. While the kids were off swimming and playing on the beach, my husband and I were able to enjoy a relaxing morning at the Scandinave Spa, followed by a romantic lunch at the beautiful Pottery Restaurant. We then had the opportunity to try something completely new to us by heading up the mountain for a unique experience touring the mountain top by Segway! All the while knowing the kids were safe and having a blast at camp.

We definitely had an amazing start to our #90DaysofSummer by heading to Blue Mountain Resort and highly recommend it for your next getaway!  We are excited to get to the next item on our summer bucket list, but now that this experience will be pretty much impossible to beat!

Disclosure: Blue Mountain Resort provided accommodations, food and activities during our stay in exchange for sharing our experience. As always, all opinions are my own.
