Chicks dig cars too!

Sexy Girl in a Convertible Car

When I set out to create TWSS, I had the goal of an eclectic women’s lifestyle e-zine style site. For women, by women. I admit at first I went with the stereotypical women’s topics and kept close to my roots as a “mom-blogger”. However 2015 is a huge transitional year for me in many ways and this of course includes my pride and joy on the web.

One of the most exciting changes to the blog is that I’m thrilled to be introducing more topics that are not as common to a women’s lifestyle blog: technology and automotive.

Ok so while I use the term “chicks” loosely in the title as I know many are not a fan of the term, the point is clear. Many women love to talk cars! I am thrilled to not only be writing for this section myself but to have also brought on a group of great writers, including a female car-expert who will be sharing all the latest and greatest in vehicle news.

You may not know that I spent some time years ago working for a auto manufacturer and in that time, I really got to know the different vehicles, parts and body styles. I developed an appreciation beyond “I like that colour” which I admit was mostly my reason for choosing my first vehicle. My husband has also become quite a car aficionado in recent years as well so it’s a topic of conversation in our home on a daily basis. You can see what I’m talking about over on his blog Northern Gentleman.

Last month I was invited to attend the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto (#CIAS2015) and I was thrilled as I knew it would be the perfect way to kick off our new category.

My husband and I attended each press conference, checking out the latest and greatest in automobile technology. We had our personal favourites in every category but it was clear that we were both smitten with the new Cadillac’s!

Specifically, the 2016 CTS-V. This is one of those cars that has the whole package: it’s fast, safe, well made and extremely sexy!

The car is impressive. 640 horsepower, 630 foot pounds of torque, 0-96 km/hr in 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 320 km/hr! I feel like taking this baby out on the track would be a wild ride! It’s rare my husband and I both agree on a car but there was no denying we’d easily agree on this one.

After we wiped the drool off our chin, we were off to check out the huge range of vehicles in the giant showroom at the CIAS. I could probably go on for pages about what we liked and disliked about each vehicle we saw, however I figure you can’t fully talk about a vehicle until you get behind the wheel. So we’ve decided that this year we need to do just that – and get behind the wheel of as many vehicles as we can and give you the real scoop on what you need to know next time you are shopping for a new vehicle.

Of course, I can’t not mention the 2 coolest announcements of the day. First was the news that the 2016 Bolt Concept car will be going to production. This car promises 300+ km per charge, making it a clear contender for anyone looking for a daily commuter vehicle. It’s been known for awhile that electric vehicles are the future and I love how the future looks!

The 2nd announcement that was incredibly exciting for this plugged-in family is the addition of the 4G LTE WiFi by OnStar. Yep, that’s right, you will be able to access WiFi in your car! As a family who go a LOT of road trips and for me who takes my work with me on the road, this is huge news. Really, it’s a game-changer because it’s another benefit to consider when shopping for a new car.

We really had a fantastic day and learned so much. We left incredibly excited about what’s to come and are already talking about when we will make our next car purchase. I’m looking forward to bringing you all the latest and greatest in automotive news, reviews and technology. I also encourage you to submit any questions you might want answered in a future article.
