We don’t live in Whitby but we sure spend a lot of time there!

I had lunch with a friend in Whitby today and I joked that lately I’ve been spending more time there than in the town I actually live. Durham Region is a pretty big area but it always seems we end up in Whitby for many things. Over the past 2 months, I’ve been taking a course downtown, plus my son takes Karate lessons there. Add to that all the other family activities and shopping and I start to think I should seriously consider moving.

When you are driving down the 401 through Durham Region, it’s not hard to miss the town of Whitby because of the giant Whitby Entertainment Centrum that appears at the Thickson Rd. exit.  Many years ago (I do not care to admit how many), I actually worked at one of the restaurants so I spent a lot of time there. My friends and I used to love going to the The Putting Edge after work which is an awesome glow-in-the-dark mini-putt place, and now I enjoy taking my kids there.

I’m a huge foodie but I hate deciding where to go for dinner. It’s such an easy choice for us to head towards the Whitby Entertainment Centrum and decide once we arrive. Milestones, Lone Star, Denny’s, Mongolian Grill and Wild Wing to name a few. We’ve eaten at all of them, although the kids always beg to go to Chuckie Cheese instead.

Our latest favourite store though is Hockey Life. With two growing kids who both play, we go through a lot of equipment. We’ve always felt that ensuring they are wearing properly fitted equipment is important to their safety and enjoyment of the game and shopping at a store that caters specifically to the sport is a no-brainer.

Of course, the main attraction for us though has always been the movie theatre, Landmark Cinemas. The name has changed a few times over the years but the experience is still the same. My husband and son are big movie buffs and so they love to head to the theatre to catch the latest release on the big screen (although I’m pretty certain they mostly go for the popcorn).

Really, I just love the convenience of having so many choices in one location, especially ones that will please the entire family. Whitby is a fantastic town!
