As you may know, not too long ago we purchased our dream home. A raised bungalow, open concept, corner lot and lots of room for our kids to play and grow! House-hunting in a new city was definitely tough but we managed to find a place that had absolutely everything on our list and really made us feel like we had found “the house” from the first moment we walked in the front door.

Our priority when we moved in was getting the kids bedrooms and the basement rec room finished. We wanted to make sure our kids really had a feeling that they were “home” and absolutely loved their new space. They weren’t the most excited about moving but our plan worked and they are now incredibly happy in their great spaces. My husband did so much work. The rooms look amazing!

Now that those rooms are complete, I’m so excited to begin to tackle the adult spaces. We are already in love with the kitchen so there’s really nothing to be done there. However the living room area is just not “us”. The previous owners had wonderful taste and the house was obviously very cared for. However their tastes just are not ours, and we still sort of feel like we are living in someone else’s house whenever we’re in the living room. Since our front door opens in to that room, we really want it to be a space we love to hang out in and love to show off!

This is how the previous owner had the space decorated:

While it’s not our style, the potential of this room is very clear!

This is the room bare before we moved our current furniture in:

Since moving in, we have temporarily added our old couch and love seat (which we bought used years ago) and a few other pieces and photos, but they really don’t fit the space at all.

However I am not really what you would call a savvy decorator so I did what any domestic goddess would do – I checked in with Pinterest. I spent hours searching through photos, looking at overall room designs to get an idea of what I even want. Because I really had no idea!

Then I found it! My room inspiration:

THIS is us. It’s a room we could feel at home in.

What I love most is the red couch and accent chair. Not necessarily the same ones. I don’t see a sectional working well in our living room so back I went in search of furniture we would love to have in our home.

I was a bit worried I wasn’t going to like anything as I scrolled through page after page of couches, but then one couch and chair really stuck out and I called my husband over to look. “They are perfect!”

I am so in love with these pieces!! They are from the Reese collection at The Brick and are exactly what I want. The fabric on the couch is chenille and it comes in both red or grey which are both colours I love.

So now I’m on The Brick website searching through coffee tables, area rugs and home decor putting together everything for my ultimate room. We actually purchased our new dining room set from here when we moved and I am very happy with the design and quality so I feel confident to buy from them again. If I can get hubby on board to spend the $$$ once I have my list completed, this is going to be a huge transition.

And anyone with an eye for decorating – please do feel free to send me any thoughts you might have. I will take all the help I can get on this project!
