Living in QC, my kids have their “spring break” earlier than most. The downside is that we miss out on the family fun that is planned outside the province for the following weeks, however there is a big benefit: no crowds.

With my husband away for work this week, I decided to take the kids on a little adventure with my mom. We drove out to Niagara Falls for some waterpark fun. My kids are 8 & 12 so it was the perfect place to let them recharge and just be kids for a couple days.

The great thing about Niagara Falls is the proximity to the Canada/US border. It’s easy to pop over for a weekend of shopping or to have dinner at my favourite US chain, The Cheesecake Factory (noms!). All you need is a passport and some travel insurance. Even for short trips it’s super important to make sure you have a travel insurance plan – I hate to think of the worst case scenarios but I couldn’t bear putting that kind of financial responsibility on my loved ones. Not everyone realizes how super-easy it is to get! A service such as www.internationalinsurance.com ensures I have the coverage and piece of mind I need when travelling internationally, even if it’s just a skip over the border for some epic cheesecake!

Niagara Falls, Ontario is home to 3 indoor waterparks. Many of the hotels in the area offer waterpark packages which are a significant savings. We opted to stay at one of our favourite family-friendly hotels in the area, the Skyline Inn. Not only are their rooms fantastic for families (our suite had 2 queen beds + a separate area with a bunk bed for the kids), they show a movie in the courtyard area each night (complete with popcorn). They also have a skyway that runs straight to the Fallsview Waterpark without having to go outside.

The big benefit to their waterpark package is that you get almost 2 days at the waterpark for less than the price of 1 day tickets. We were able to check in to the hotel at 1pm and use the waterpark until close that day (8pm), plus go back to the waterpark for the entire following day of our stay. We opted to add an extra night at the hotel and spent our last day exploring the majestic falls.

Our March break is still not over but it definitely started off with a bang! We’re bound to get up to more fun this week so definitely follow me on social media to keep up!
