Kid watching moving on tablet inside car

Well they’ve done it! Just when I thought streaming couldn’t get better, Netflix went and outdid themselves. This family is pretty thrilled about the new feature!

You can now catch up on your favourite movies & episodes OFFLINE! For free. Not kidding! In the car, on the bus, at the park, on a boat in the middle of the ocean… anywhere! No need to wait until you get home or find a decent WiFi signal… or dare I say use up your precious Data minutes.

My husband commutes to work via transit. He’s on a bus for almost 2 hours each day and even with an upgraded Data plan he had been going over his usage most months. For the last week, he’s been trying out the new feature, downloading the shows to his phone the night before. He was the biggest skeptic but has come home every day raving about how great this feature is.

It’s so easy to use too!

How to Download Netflix Movies and Shows

  1. Select the title you would like to download.
  2. On the description page, tap the download icon download.png (For TV shows, the icon will appear next to each available episode)
  3. Once the title has completed downloading, you can access it from the My Downloads section of the app.

That’s it!

Next week we are leaving on a road trip south and my kids will be in the car for about 50 hours round trip. They’ve already been busy making a list of which movies and shows they will download to their tablets for the drive. Will also come in handy for those motels that don’t have WiFi or a decent cable package. 😉

If you are looking for a last minute gift for a family or friend, then perhaps a Netflix Gift Card (which I noticed you can pick up on the Gift Card rack at the store checkout counter now), or a device that they can download their shows to!

Happy Holidays!
