Ok so I am super excited to be attending my first ever blogging conference this weekend, BlissDom 2013. However, I am also really nervous! Until recently, I was very much in seclusion and did not know many other bloggers. My blog has always just been a bit of a hobby, something I did to relieve stress, vent, share my favourite things or help me get to sleep late at night.
I have always wanted to do more with it. I have tried! For those of you who have been here from the beginning, you’ve seen me try (and fail) many times over. Well, fail is an awful word because I don’t think you can fail at blogging. It’s what you want to make of it right?
My biggest challenge has been that I have no idea what my niche is. I’m not an expert in anything really. I just enjoy writing about whatever topic pops in my head that day (or night). I have a small idea of where I would like to be, however I seem to lack the motivation and focus to really settle and get there.
So of course this brings us to the prospect of Blissdom. When I first heard about it, I wanted to jump in and get my ticket asap. If anything, just getting away for the weekend was a huge seller for me. Then I became shy and did a “what if everyone laughs at me” sort of pre-teen speech, straight from the days leading up to when I first got my braces at age 13.
The great thing is that the braces didn’t look so horrible, no one laughed at me and when it was all over, I had fantastic straight teeth and was asked out by the guy that I had a crush on just days after having them removed. Not too shabby and totally worth the 2 years of metal-mouth.
Luckily, two amazingly fantastic blogger friends were pushing me to go and my fears slowly started to look absolutely ridiculous. Yes, there are going to be some amazing bloggers there. Yes, they have a huge readership and I will probably be super-nervous to meet them at first. However, as I’ve been spending a lot of time on the #BlissDomCA chats on Twitter, I’m beginning to realize that these people are not scary. They are not going to laugh at my little blog and if anything, they are going to give me advice that will only help make me a better blogger.
My excitement has returned and I really can’t wait. My bag is packed… I have nothing good to wear but I don’t care. It’s still going to be a fantastic opportunity to network, grow and just have a great time!
I’m am most excited for what I will learn and bring back to you.
So tell me, if you do read my blog, what do you love most about it?? What would you like to see more of?
